We will be performing several upgrades to the NY SQL clusters tonight starting at 01:00 UTC (8:00PM EST) as we wrap up some massive storage expansion we’ve been shuffling around to do. The net result of this will be 1 to 2 (depending on how late it is) 10-15 second outages as we failover traffic between nodes in New York.
We will be doing the following tonight:
NY-SQL01:
- Upgrading to Dual E5 2697 v2 Processors
- Installing a 2TB P3700 NVMe PCIe SSD
- Installing SQL 2014 Cumulative Update 5
NY-SQL02:
- Upgrading to Dual E5 2697 v2 Processors
- Installing SQL 2014 Cumulative Update 5
- The 2TB PCIe Storage was already installed in this secondary node earlier
NY-SQL03:
- Installing second 2TB P3700 NVMe PCIe SSD for a RAID 0 and ~ 3.7TB of SSD storage
- Installing Cumulative Update 5
NY-SQL04:
- Installing Cumulative Update 5
If time allows during this window we will also be moving Chat in the Oregon data center from OR-SQL01 to OR-SQL02 so that we can install hardware in OR-SQL01 with no extended user-facing downtime tomorrow. We’ll do a database restore and chat build against the new database server as quickly as possible but this will still result in a few minutes of user-facing downtime.
For progress as we do you can follow us via the hangout on-air: https://plus.google.com/events/c2v3ep15qt3gnfdg1b78d7nqfk0 or via @StackStatus on twitter.
