We are in the process of upgrading our secondary data center, moving most services from Corvallis, OR to Denver, CO. Starting this Thursday (June 11th) we will begin powering down our servers in the Oregon facility. The two active services running out of that facility are Stack Exchange Chat (chat.stackexchange.com, chat.stackoverflow.com, and chat.meta.stackexchange.com) and the Stack Exchange Data Explorer (data.stackexchange.com).
In preparation for the move, we will be relocating these services to our New York facility in a window of around 8-9pm EST (00:00-01:00 UTC) tonight. The services will go offline as we sync the latest user data to New York and switch DNS over. Hopefully, each service will be down for around 10 minutes + DNS propagation time, but issues and WAN speed may up that a bit.
If you’re curious about the move itself, you’ll be able to follow along with #milehighops on twitter. After it’s done, you can expect a detailed blog post similar to our last upgrade in New York.
