Tonight at 8:30PM EDT (00:30 UTC), we will begin moving all services from our
Denver, CO data center back to
New York. The major user-facing services that will be involved in the move are:
- All Q&A Sites (including Stack Overflow)
- Stack Overflow Careers
- Chat
- Blogs
- Stack Exchange API
- stackexchange.com
- Area 51
- Stack OpenID
What you can expect
Each of the services listed above will be moved via DNS and CloudFlare pointers. We don’t have an exact schedule as this will be a fluid schedule “as things get done” style, finishing as quickly as we can. There should be no downtime for Q&A, only a brief period of read-only traffic as we migrate databases masters to New York. Other services like API and Careers will have similar behavior. Chat will undergo a brief outage as we flip it over (on the order of minutes).
